Gain hands-on event management experience in the context of a volunteer organization.
This internship is a great opportunity to develop event management skills whilst experiencing life in the bustling, colorful city of Amsterdam. You’ll play an important role supporting corporate volunteering projects and helping to bring communities closer together.
This organization provides an innovative service for the city. It supplies local community-led volunteer initiatives with volunteer workers. Simultaneously, it provides big businesses and corporations with team-building events in the form of volunteer activities. They believe volunteering is not only a great way to give back to the community, but can also help maintain a happy healthy atmosphere in the workplace.
This is a multi-faceted project with a vast network of volunteering initiatives and many ongoing projects, so interns can expect a great variety of work. You’ll work closely with project managers to organize, coordinate, and execute volunteer projects, corporate team building activities, impact days and a range of other events.

ORGANIZATION
Serve the City Amsterdam is part of a global movement of volunteers with the uniting goal to show kindness and caring to people across the world. Their Amsterdam branch is the city’s largest initiative of volunteer programs. With links to homeless shelters, refugee centers, orphanages, urban-greening efforts, and hostels for victims of abuse, they work in part to supply and coordinate a workforce of volunteers to goodwill projects, and in part to provide a connecting nexus between like-minded volunteers throughout the city.
Through their initiative Serve the City at Work, they organize customized team building events, workshops, and impact days for organizations as well as allowing them access to their vast network of volunteer initiatives around the city. Their volunteer activities include home visits for the elderly and disabled, grocery shopping and delivery, transportation, companionships, soup kitchens, and litter-picking.
TASKS & REQUIreMENTS
As an intern, you’ll gain access to a vast network of volunteering activities through contributing to ongoing projects, regular events, and volunteering programs. This could be anything from cooking at homeless shelters, helping at petting farms, to taking the elderly on a walk, to litter picks.
Responsibilities
- Planning, organizing and executing corporate volunteering events
- Coordinate schedules with local non-profit organizations and corporate companies
- Guide corporate employees through volunteering events
- Develop and maintain relationships with corporate organizations, community leaders, volunteering organizations and volunteers
- Creating and distributing promotional and informative material such as brochures, emails, and online content
- Assist with general administrative tasks such as handling invoices, keeping track of ongoing projects, and scheduling appointments.
- Attending and participating in various volunteering events
Requirements
- Ideally an EU citizen or have a pre-arranged study/work visa to allow for a duration of more than 3 months
- Preference given to candidates with availability up to 6 months
- Strong organizational skills
- Experience in project coordination is preferable
- Must be willing and able to work odd hours [on weekends/nights] or overtime during events.
- The ability to multitask and prioritize effectively
- Robust social skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- A passion for volunteer work and community projects

- A reference letter at the end of your internship

- Flights to Amsterdam
- Visa and medical/travel insurance costs for the duration of your placement – must include cover for repatriation
- Accommodation & meals
- Transport to the office
- Drinks, snacks, and items of personal nature (f.e. curios, gifts, clothing)

What can I expect from an internship in the Netherlands?

No, you’ll be responsible for your accommodation during your internship. We can offer suggestions, but we are not able to guarantee any housing arrangements.
Am I able to get university credit for an internship in the Netherlands?
Yes, but your university supervisor must approve this prior to your offer acceptance. You can purchase transfer credits if you’d like to supplement your internship experience.
Will I have time to explore the country during my internship?
Yes, you’ll be able to travel by train (a bonus of interning in Europe) to explore the country and those surrounding! Just make sure you request time off before embarking on any trips.
