Why Choose Roots Internships in Education & Pedagogy
Find out from our previous interns how internship positions in Education can boost your professional career and grow your interpersonal skills.
I had a wonderful time working with Roots and my placement organization. I was walking through the interview process and enjoyed how well-heard I was. My interests, schedule, and goals were taken into account at every turn. I felt supported during my stay and the accommodations were very nice. One of the best parts about this internship was how flexible it was. In the beginning, this was a bit of a challenge but once you find your rhythm and goals, it’s the best. I did everything from working one-on-one with a few of the kids from the school, facilitating girl power groups, facilitating lesson plans with teachers, helping create a business plan, mission and vision statement, and so much more. Each day was new and different, a real adventure. My whole experience was so pleasant that I decided to come back after my internship and I’ll be staying here for the rest of the year! My life has been changed for the better because of this experience.
Shelby, University of Southern California Price, American – Female Empowerment Education Internship, Zambia
During my time in Cape Town, I worked with groups of children in various morning projects and with the children at the Ubuntu Center in the afternoon. I planned the activities for the younger and the older children at the center to bring in more structure around their day. It was a great chance to see all the differences in the development of each project. My work was always different and there was always something new for me to explore. It became a great challenge for me to experience all those parts of working in and for the township, but I am proud of all the challenges I had to face everyday. I stayed strong and I gained a lot of self-confidence during my time in South Africa. Also, all the people in the accommodation have different values to get along with, which was a good challenge for me and important for my personal development. All in all, I contributed to good work and I can see the difference I made. I’m grateful for my time in Cape Town and because of this internship I was able to gain new perspectives and to change my outlook on a lot of things.
This internship has been unforgettable and has played a large role in my professional development. The people I worked with are passionate about supporting students and are driven to achieve the most positive outcomes for our recipients. I helped teach Digital Literacy training and prepare migrant/refugee students for specialized degree programs along with assisting with employment access and professional development of students who have completed their degrees. I gained a lot of experience and knowledge from my work here which is something I would not have learned from a classroom setting. I plan to continue working in the non-profit sector in my career. This internship showed me the background of how organizations are run and the kind of admin needed for success.
