Our Partners: The Underdog Project

The Underdog Project

The Underdog Project is a nonprofit organization that is dedicated to helping two underserved Cape Town communities: Cape Town youth and dogs. We know that animals are able to provide emotional comfort, assist with disabilities, and protect us from danger. For Cape Town’s at risk youth, the most important thing is a bond to last a lifetime. Through training workshops and activities, The Underdog Project teaches compassion to young people while training their new animal best friend. The benefits of this program are:

  • Providing homes and training to dogs who are in need
  • Empowering youth with a lifelong improved emotional skill set through Animal-Assisted Activities
  • Promoting the importance of non-violence by using humane training tactics with otherwise unwanted dogs
  • Teaching compassion and empathy as a way to dissuade youth from a life of gangs and/or drug and alcohol abuse

The Underdog Project hopes to spread peace throughout communities, as we know that the way we treat animals is a reflection of ourselves. By teaching youth and dogs that there is an alternative to violence, they hope to one day spread peace and kindness wherever their plans take them.
