MEDIA INTERNSHIPS OFFERING A RANGE OF FOCUSES

Developing Radio Partners  is focused on spreading important information primarily through the medium of radio in Africa. This involves training local journalists, assisting with broadcasts, and encouraging accessibility to radios in rural communities. DRP works with local broadcasters to spread information about the environment, agriculture, health, and governance. This easy spreading of information gives the power of knowledge to everyday people, and changes their lives for the better.

While every community needs reliant information about day to day life, DRP also tailors its support to the specific needs of the station. These approaches could include: outreach with community partners, surveying technical capacities of stations, creating Program Toolkits to support targeted programming, and ongoing monitoring and evaluation. These engagements encourage stronger, more participatory communities.

Started in 2004 by one of the founders of National Public Radio in the United States, Developing Radio Partners is a well-established organization that is eager for new interns!

THE IMPACT OF DEVELOPING RADIO PARTNERS

DRP seeks to not only empower their listening communities with information, but also bring about tangible positive changes. The impact of having an active radio station includes:

  • Accessing a radio can be very cheap or even free
  • Encouraging an open dialogue concerning once taboo topics
  • Increasing the amount of accessible information to all people
  • Decreasing the wait time between broadcasts as radio stations often run 24/7
